PROFESSIONAL LIFE

I am a graduate from Parkston High School and South Dakota State University. I earned my Bachelors Degree in Music Education from SDSU and am the 4th-12th-grade band director & 7th-12th co-director of the choir at Parkston High School. 

I have worked with numerous high school ensembles. Being both a musical and visual technician. Pioneer Drum and Bugle Corps in also an ensemble that I am a proud member of, both as an alumni and as person on staff.

Parkston High School 

2017-2018 

 

Parkston High School is the first full-time teaching position I have accepted. At Parkston, I teach individual lessons, conduct various rehearsals and direct live performances for students 4th-12th grade. 

2018-2019

I have returned to Parkston High School to teach for a second year. This year comes with additional responsibilities.

  • Teach 4th-6th grade individual lessons (7th-12th grade optional)

  • Direct 5th/6th grade & 7th-12th grade band.

  • Co-direct 7th-12th choir.

  • Teach 7th & 8th grade General Music.

 

Student Teaching: Hartford, SD

2017

 

To complete my Bacholers Degree in Music Education, I students taught at West Central School District. At West Central, I provide individual lessons to middle school students, directed middle school and high school small and large ensembles, assisted in leading various ensembles outside of the school day and aided in teaching their Music Technology course. 

 

Drum Corps International
2014, 2016-current
 

2014: As a member of the Pioneer Drum and Bugle Corps, I was a part of the front ensemble and performed on the vibraphone. I performed in front of thousands of audiences members at numerous competitions around the nation.

 

2016: Pioneer Drum and Bugle Corps offered me the opportunity to be the Assistant Corps Director. My responsibilities included: maintaining medical supplies, taking care of those who had injuries, updating equipment, and distributing, maintaining and repairing uniforms. Outside of being the Assistant Corps Director, I took on the role of a visual intern. As a visual intern, I shadowed the field staff during rehearsal and, eventually, was given the responsibility to teach the members of Pioneer during visual and full ensemble rehearsal. 

 

2017: Pioneer Drum and Bugle Corps hired me into its organization as a full visual staff member. As a staff member, I worked with members during visual and full ensemble rehearsals. I help develop the 2017 Pioneer production, "Irish on Broadway" and aided in creating rehearsal procedures and plans.

2018: Pioneer Drum and Bugle Corps hired to be on their visual team for their 2018 production "Celtic Dragons". During my time with Pioneer, I worked exclusively with the percussion section. Teaching the battery drill, how to march/move and installing various body to enhance the visual production were some of the duties I was handed. I also worked with the front ensemble providing information on how to move and communicate with each other and enhancing their perform by helping define facial expressions and macro-body motions. 

 

Brookings High School Marching Band
2013-2016

 

I started working with the Brookings High School Marching Band in fall of 2013. While there, I have worked with the percussion sections. My first year, I worked closely with the front ensemble and the following years I have worked more with the battery. During my time at Brookings High School, the staff grew and the number of members in the drumline continued to grow as well. Each year the drumline exceed the standards that were established and reached for new/higher levels of achievement.

 

Brookings Indoor Marching Percussion
2014 - 2015

 

While at Brookings High School an indoor drumline program was founded. Brookings High School was the first high school in South Dakota to have a competitive drumline and gained recognition from surrounding organizations and high schools. At Brookings Indoor, I work with the battery, specifically with the snare drums. I worked with other staff members to develop show concepts, make musical decisions, and help the students better their marching and musical knowledge. The 2014-2015 season was the first season in which the members of the Brookings Indoor Program earned 1st place in all of their competitions. They also competed and earned 2nd place in their first finals competition.

2011 - 2017

 

At South Dakota State University I pursued a degree in Music Education. While at SDSU I  performed in the CommuniVersity band, Concert band, and Symphonic band.Additionally, I was member of the Pride of the Dakota's Drumline, the South Dakota State University Percussion Ensemble, SDSU's basketball pep band, and men's choir. 

 

Parkston High School
2005 - 2011

 

I went to Parkston High School from fall 2005 to spring 2011. While in high school I was a member of FCCLA, FBLA, TORCH, and FCA. I was member of the band all four years of high school and performed in the percussion section.
